What if you were raised in an environment where it was not safe to be yourself. What if you were raised to only have friendships based on sharing beliefs?

As long as you wore the mask and spoke the right words then you were worthy of friendship. Likely, you felt as if you could not be your authentic self while in the religious environment.

Now, outside of religion, when you are finally allowed to be your authentic self, it continues to be a struggle to know how to develop friendship. We never were taught how.
